Lasnamäe Gümnaasium
Lasnamäe Gümnaasium is a public school started on September1, 1979.
We are one of the biggest schools in Tallinn, located in a dwelling area in a 5-storey modern building renovated in 2015. Our school is well-equipped with computer classes, a laboratory, 2 gyms, a swimming pool, etc.
We have almost 1300 students and 111 teachers. However, we experience a constant increase in the number of students.
Our school is dividend into primary (grade 1-3), secondary (grade 4-9) and upper-secondary school (10-12). Although, the major language in school is Russian, we have language immersion classes, where almost all the subjects are taught in Estonian. We follow the National Curriculum that requires 60% of lessons to be in Estonian in upper-secondary school, and we support our students with special needs by organizing small classes or writing a speacial plan aimed at a particular student’s needs.
We have a lot of achievements locally and we are really proud to be partners of various universities and vocational schools. Such partnership not only broadens our students’ horizons, but also gives them a chance to acquire new knowledge and specialties, while still studying at school. Last year we started developing International relations and we also step by step achieving our goal: our school representative visited a contact seminar on eTwinning Project, which resulted in a nice cultural eTwinning Project and KA2 Erasmus+ application. What is more we paid our attention to a completely new course – Nordplus Project cooperation and did there quite well. This year we continue cooperations via eTwinning projects and participating in eTwinning seminar again, as well as planning Erasmus+ and Nordplus further activities.
Last year we were the first Russian school in Estonia to join KiVa anti-bullying program and we already have some positive results. A series of events were held in addition to the lessons planned. As a result, our students’ level of consciousness has increased and we continue developing and introducindg KiVa ideas and course among our secondary school students.
Traditions and cultural diversity plays another important role for us. Being a Russian school, we honour the Estonian traditions equally to the Russian ones. Besides that, we have lots of students with a foreign background and we support them and respect their cultures as well. We are oriented to the major European values that imply tolerance and multicultural society.
